ACARF IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED
ACARF has made the very difficult decision to close temporarily. As the COVID-19 virus danger increases, we feel that we can no longer put the health of our staff and the health of our visitors at risk. Temporary closure will begin on Monday, March 30. Right now, we’re projecting that we will be closed for two weeks, but that may be extended. We’ll re-evaluate in April
ACARF will honor the appointments that have already been made. However, we will not be making any more appointments for visits. We’ll still be checking our email, and our Facebook page messages. There will no longer be any front office staff to answer phone calls, but we will be checking phone messages.
We will still be helping by posting lost and found animals on our Facebook page. IF YOU HAVE A LOST PET OR IF YOU HAVE FOUND AN ANIMAL, please read this information).
Although the animals we have currently will still be loved and cared for every day, we won’t be able to take in any strays or surrendered pets (IF YOU NEED TO FIND A SPOT FOR A STRAY OR A PET YOU OWN, please read this information). Our food supply is limited and our financial resources are in danger due to the temporary closure of our Second Chance store in Iola, which provides a huge part of our funding.
We are forced to limit intake to those animals ACARF takes under our contract with the City of Iola (IF YOUR PET WAS BROUGHT TO ACARF BY IOLA ANIMAL CONTROL/POLICE DEPARTMENT, please read this information). If you would like to donate to help us take care of the cats and dogs in the shelter now and those who will be brought in by Iola Animal Control or the Iola Police Department in the future, we would be deeply grateful.
These will be such difficult days. Hopefully, individuals will step up to help the animals we are unable to right now.
Please stay home and reduce the spread of this terrible disease. Protect yourselves, your families and friends, and the frontline folks who continue their work to protect us all: the police officers, firefighters, and healthcare workers who are at such high risk. And please…give your pets some extra love from all of us at ACARF.
Our hope is that everyone stays safe and well until we see you again.

WHO--AND WHAT--IS "ACARF?"
ACARF (the Allen County Animal Rescue Facility) is a nonprofit no-kill animal shelter in rural La Harpe, Kansas. ACARF was established by a grassroots group of dedicated people who wanted to give animals in need the help and hope they did not have before our organization was created. We rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for the lost and unwanted dogs and cats of our area. Although we have small contracts to take in the animals impounded by animal control officers in a few surrounding towns, ACARF is not funded by any government entity. The work that we do, saving as many animals as we can, continues primarily through donations by caring, animal-loving people...like you!
ACARF has its first TV commercial!
The commercial is airing the first week of January 2020 on KOAM TV (Channels 7 or 14).
The commercial was created by Zack Wilson at KOAM. We are so happy to have this new way to get the word out about ACARF!
If you want to see the ad on TV, it will air between 7-8 am on the Morning News, 10-11 am during Judge Judy, 4-5 pm during Ellen, and 11-11:30 pm during Two and a Half Men. The spot advertises our New Year’s sponsored adoptions.
Regarding the sponsored adoptions: Thanks to the kindness of a generous donor, the first 20 adult dogs (over 6 months of age) adopted in 2020 at ACARF will have an adoption fee of only $20.
ACARF has so many wonderful kiddos who deserve wonderful homes and families!
